With great sadness, we share the passing of our beloved friend and presenter, Himmat Singh, who left us on Monday, 14th April 2025.

Himmat was a valued presenter on Awaz FM, hosting the popular Punjabi programme every Thursday from 12pm to 2pm. His warm presence, passion for music and love for his community touched the hearts of many. Originally from London, Himmat was a true pioneer of the UK Bhangra scene. In the 1980s, he formed one of the first Bhangra bands, Shaan Group, and performed at many events, including the wedding of a singer from the famous Heera group.

Beyond the airwaves, Himmat lived a life full of energy and purpose. From working as a foreman at Volvo Trucks to being a driving instructor, running a successful business, he truly never stopped.

Himmat's funeral will take place on Friday, 25th April at 10am at Linn Crematorium, Glasgow.

On behalf of everyone at Awaz FM, we are deeply shocked and heartbroken by his passing. Himmat Singh ji was a true gentleman, and his absence will be felt deeply. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and kindly ask that their privacy be respected as they grieve this great loss.

Awaz FM has placed a book of remembrance in the studio where presenters, past and present and friends can come and anyone who wants can write their memories, stories or words that can be passed on to his family until Thursday 24th April.
